Ray Bradbury was born on August 22, 1920 at Waukegan, Illinois, a town just north of Chicago ( Piddock, 7). It is said that he was very pampered as a child from his mother. When he was little he dealt with many fears and nightmares. But despite all of that, he was a very sociable and loved to be the center of attraction. He always wanted to be in a fantasy world. he loved reading those types of books. In fact, when he was young, he even wanted to be a magician. After he got a tin typewriter as a Christmas present, he wrote every single day.
When he was in high school, he had to see a horrible car accident which scarred him really badly that he never learned how to drive a car. He always walked or rode a bicycle around town. As a teenager, he wanted to write scripts for movies and radio. During his junior year, he enrolled in a poetry class at school and joined a poetry club. He also took a short-story course at that time. This boosted his confidence as a writer.
Ray's efforts were finally paid off in 1940. He wrote a short story called "It's Not the Heat, It's the Hu..". He submitted this story to a Hollywood literary magazine named Script. And later it was published and through this achievement, he became a professional writer. In the 1940s, Ray Bradbury emerged as a major American writer. In September 27, 1947, he got married to Marguerite McClure.
He chose his most powerful stories for his book titled The Illustrated Man. This book was published on February 23, 1951. He was only thirty years old then.
He passed away in Los Angeles on June 5th 2012, when he was 91 years old. He published more than 500 short stories, novels, plays, screenplays, television scripts, and poems. His best known and most beloved books includes The Martian Chronicles, The Illustrated Man, Fahrenheit 451, and Something Wicked This Way Comes. He is one of the writers who shaped our modern imagination. Just like he wanted, he still lives through his works ( Piddock, 17-97)
